Driving after surgery

You should take your Surgeon’s advice about when it is safe to resume driving. You will need to meet the required visual standard and should also feel happy with your eyes and vision. The timing will depend upon the nature of your surgery, the general health of your eyes and whether your glasses need to be altered by much.

Although vision is very often blurred during the first week after most forms of eye surgery, many patients see well enough to return to driving within a week. If your glasses require alteration, it is usual to wait for vision to stabilise – often about 4 weeks. Too soon and the prescription may change a little further.
